Alright, lets get on with it:

3 IDEAS FROM ME

I.

I would argue that the days you show up to write even when you feel like shit and don’t accomplish all that much are the absolute most important days TO show up.

I guarantee you that sitting in front of the computer (or notebook) actively confronting your writing will make you feel 10x better than lazing about, feeling guilty for not showing up for yourself.

That doesn’t mean you can’t meet yourself where you are - tea, blankets, extra treats, and patience with yourself can most certainly be part of the equation.

II.

Around the office - I’m seeing a little pick up in activity! Not a landslide by any means, but it’s feeling like we’re out of the ER and into a slow recovery.

Quick Reminder: You will be ahead of the game if you have fresh material to send out when things crank back up again.

III.

Sometimes making time for writing can feel frivolous, especially when there are ‘bigger” things at play around you. BUT there are a whole host of reasons making time for your art is hugely beneficial, not just for you, but for those around you as well.

Taking time to be creative is a great way to externalize and process our own emotions. When you take the time to process your own feelings you’re able to move through the world in a more relaxed and authentic way.

Emotions are genuinely contagious (science!) so when you move through the world in a more relaxed and authentic way you naturally spread that feeling to those around you.

You are literally healing the world by taking time for your art.

2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS

I.

From the great and truly prolific Stephen King:

“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”

II.

The PHENOMENAL Brené Brown, researcher and author of many books, including DARING GREATLY (If you haven’t seen her TED talk, do yourself a favor and watch it here):

“Our willingness to own and engage with our vulnerability determines the depth of our courage and the clarity of our purpose; the level to which we protect ourselves from being vulnerable is a measure of our fear and disconnection.”

1 QUESTION FOR YOU

Do you enjoy your writing process (not wins, process)? If no, how could you make it more enjoyable?

Until next week,
Kate Gaulke
