I’m Kate Gaulke

I’m a script consultant, story coach, and - let’s just call it what it is: a total fuc*ing nerd about story.

I’ve been working in the entertainment industry my entire life, starting as an actor. Yes, I am a low-key, firmly middle-class, nepo baby. I grew up in and out of casting rooms, sets, and productions mo-ho’s breaking down scripts literally as I was learning how to read.

I made a pretty good living at it for a long time. I even got to go to Sundance with the film DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, which won the grand jury prize in 2014. This is where I met Andrew Coles, the manager for Lena Waithe, who is now a highly decorated writer and producer.

Andrew kindly took me under his wing, got me into all the cool parties, and taught me how to do professional grade script coverage. I regularly covered incoming work for his partner, Corrine Aquino, along with recommendations on whether to represent emergent talent or kindly pass.

Corrine loved my coverage so much she invited me out for coffee to talk about my work, where I had to admit, shamefully, that while I had a solid short film and many ideas, I didn’t have a finished script at the time. Yes, I still kick myself over that, but it underscored a valuable lesson: It is not the critic who counts.

Over the years I have finished and be paid to write a number of screenplays. I’ve honed my script and story analysis skills, regularly providing friends and colleagues with notes that are, “so helpful you have no idea!!!”

These days, I work as an associate literary manager for another boutique high-end literary management company while also providing independent development notes on features, pilots, novels, pitches and more.

Respected producers, development executives, staff writers, and other lit managers regularly come to me when they need feedback on a project.

I hold a degree in Understanding and Influencing Human Behavior (no, this is not a normal degree - I had to work with multiple department heads, and submit a whole proposal in order to get it approved) which means I look at more than just plot. I zero in on what your characters are doing, why your emotional beats aren’t landing, and what’s making your story feel off - even when the structure looks fine on the surface.

I don’t do this for a quick buck (🤣), or because I want to “break in.” I have an extraordinarily strong moral compass; I deeply care about bringing quality stories into the world and supporting the creatives who make them. I believe that the stories we tell shape our culture and therefore have the capacity to change the world. Today, we need the voice of artists more than ever.

I decided to build NoonWriters after finding over and over again, that one of the hardest things for writers to do is simply show up to write on a regular basis. Incidentally, I am also one of those writers (**see previous traumatic experience).

I want this to work for you and I need this to work for me (I write alongside you every session!), so I’ve loaded it with behavioral psychology hacks to classically condition you to show up regularly, keep your work in perspective and slowly brainwash you into believing in yourself. 💕

So, if you keep putting off your own creative work, if you’re trapped in writers block, frozen by perfectionism, or want the inside scoop from a lit manager’s perspective…

I’ve got you. Let’s make it better.
