3-2-1 Screenwriting Thursday | Opportunity, Little Steps, Insanity
Real quick: I have a new program I’m developing and I would love your help to make it the best it can possibly be!
It’s a free group writing program called NoonWriters that will guarantee you make progress on your work this September!
Seats are limited and filling quickly so apply to join the beta while there’s still room!
Thanks for taking a look! Back to our regularly scheduled programming:
3 IDEAS FROM ME
I.
I actually learned this in a crisis communications class back in college, but it’s really stuck with me: “A crisis is an opportunity”
II.
“We tend to severely underrate the value of doing a little every day. If you only wrote 1 page x 4 days a week, by the end of a year you would have 208 pages. That’s:
2 Feature Length Screenplays
3 1/2 One-Hour Pilots
7 1/2 hour pilots
1 Short Novel
Over 5 weeks of FULL TIME writing
It might not seem like a lot in the moment, but over time these little wins compound into massive ones..”
Shameless plug: this is EXACTLY what we’re going to do in NoonWriters - come join us! Apply before seats fill up!
III.
Around the office: Even though I hear from so many sources that there really is no true seasonality to this business anymore, I’m hearing at work that we’ve officially entered the slow season for selling scripts. Which means it’s the perfect time to work on fresh material for the upcoming year.
That being said, those tax credits have finally dropped and production seems to be slowly coming back to life. It’s definitely not a normal year, if there even is such a thing
2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS
I.
From the inimitable Phoebe Waller Bridge:
“Whenever I get stuck on something, I’m like, ‘what would I do if I wasn’t afraid? What would I say in this situation if I wasn’t afraid?”
II.
Libba Bray, prolific author:
“Write like it matters, and it will.”
1 QUESTION FOR YOU
Why do you write? I’m serious. Why?
Until next week,
